With the objective of eliminating bribery and corruption to make Sri Lanka a corruption-free nation, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption delivered a special lecture at the two-day workshop of the Department of Buddhist Affairs held at the National Co-operative Development Institute on 20 October 2024. The lecture was scheduled for the second day and was intended to address on, “A clean public service”. Accordingly, the lecture covered aspects such as integrity, the legal framework relating to bribery and corruption, and the repercussions of bribery and corruption.
On the invitation of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, another Awareness Programme of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted for school children to endow a generation devoid of bribery and corruption was jointly organized at the Katagasdigiliya Kone Wewa Siddhartha Vidyalaya, Anuradhapura on 10 October 2024. The event took place in the school’s main hall.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has recognized enhancing integrity-related education and reaching out to the younger generation as key factors in strengthening the long-term fight against corruption. Following this principle, CIABOC's Prevention Unit conducted a program for Ocean University's academic and non-academic staff on October 3, 2024.
The Commission’s Prevention Unit conducted a Corruption Prevention Programme for 52 Labour Officers of North-Central and North-Western Provinces and was held on 05 October 2024 at “Mahagedara” Government Conference Hall, Kurunegala. The resource contribution was provided by Prevention Officers of the Commission, Mrs. J. L. A. Udeshika Madhubashini and Mrs. M. A. Rushanthi Dilshani, and by Senior Lecturer of the University of Kelaniya Mr. Tharindu Dananjaya Weerasinghe. The participants were made aware of positive thinking, preventing bribery and corruption and its consequences, the issues they have in that regard, the concept of integrity, and the new Anti-Corruption Act.
This year, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption organized a friendly debate to mark World Children’s Day, commemorated on 01st October each year. The debate, aimed at making Sri Lanka a clean nation by eliminating bribery and corruption, was conducted on the topic “Implementation of laws alone is not adequate to eliminate bribery and corruption to make Sri Lanka a clean and upright nation”. The debate was held between the students of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda and Royal College, Colombo.
Road Safety and Traffic Management of the Traffic Division of Sri Lanka Police - A programme on preventing bribery and corruption was conducted on 13.08.2024 for 73 officers following the 22nd Advance Traffic Management Course. The resource contribution was provided by Mr. Sampath Arachchige (Prevention Officer) and Mrs. Madhuka Ruwanthi (Prevention Officer). The participants were made aware of the concept of integrity, the efficiency, productivity, responsibility and accountability of a government officer, the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 09 of 2023, and the new legal provisions regarding bribery, corruption and unlawful accumulation of assets, and the questions they have in that regard.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and the University Grants Commission had a special discussion on 15th July 2024 to discuss matters on educating and empowering the university community on combatting bribery and corruption and integrity. This fruitful discussion took place at the Mini Auditorium of the Commission.
The Department of Prisons has arranged a series of capacity building programmes for Prison Guards serving in the Department and were conducted at their new training center in Angunakolapellessa. The Corruption Prevention Programme was conducted on 03rd June 2024 as the fifth programme of the series, and the full day was allocated for it. Prevention Officer Mrs. J. L. A. Udeshika Madubashini and Inspector of Police (CIABOC) Mr. U. P. Wickramarachchi provided the resource contribution, and covered areas such as the concept of integrity, new Anti-Corruption Act, and new legal provisions related to bribery, corruption and illegal accumulation of wealth, and discussed the issues they have in that regard.
“The Programme for Establishing Integrity Clubs in Schools”, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized to endow a “Generation devoid of bribery and corruption”, was held on 20th June 2024 at Hotel Green Grass, Jaffna.
A prevention programme was held at Rose wood Ceylon, Dehiwela on 07.07.2024, specially focusing on Members of Quazi Judges forum in Sri Lanka from 9.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. The programme was organized by Quazi Judges Forum under the patronage of Zam Zam Foudation, Hon. M. N. M. Bishrul Ameen Chairman, Board of Quaziz, As sheikh Mufthi Yoosuff Hanifa Chairman of Zam Zam Foundation, Board of Quazi & Quazi Judges Forum Members and on behalf of CIABOC Assistant Director (Legal) Mr. S. M. Sabry, Mr. Amhar Sherif AAL and Mr. Ifham Yehiya also took participated. Mr. S. M. Sabry delivered a lecture on “towards integrity- Eradication of Bribery and Corruption and introduction to the Anti-corruption Law, As sheikh Mufthi Yoosuff Hanifa Spokes to the gathering related to the Responsibilities of Quazi the Islamic perspective and the Wakf Board members also address the gathering and 57 Quazi Judges were participated.
A Prevention Program was conducted on 15th of July 2024 at Kallady Police Training College successfully. Newly appointed 117 Police Officers were taking part in this induction program. The program was conducted by Assistant Director (Legal) Mr. Saldeen M. Sabry & Investigation Officer Mr. Mohammed Irfan. They address the gathering on Anti Corruption Law and prevention of Bribery and corruption with practical aspects. OIC of Kallady Police Training College Mr. Sivanandhan also addressed the gathering during the welcome address and vote of thanks. Particpants also shared their experiences. Resource personals were given the necessary guidance to carry out their duties while eliminating bribery and corruption, along with practical activities.
