The Department of Prisons conducted a series of capacity building programmes for Prison Guards who received Prison Guard training in 99,100, & 101 batches. The one-day training on preventing bribery and corruption was conducted on 08th May as a component of this capacity building programme and was held at the Prison Department’s new training center in Angunukolapelessa.

As per the National Action Plan for Combatting Bribery and Corruption in Sri Lanka, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducts awareness programmes to raise awareness in the public sector. Accordingly, it conducts a series of awareness programmes for officers of the Department of Inland Revenue and one more programme of this series was conducted on 29th April at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a one-day training programme on preventing corruption for 50 officers of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority, Colombo. It was held at the Authority premises on 02.04.2024, and a team comprising of Mrs. Ama Wijesinghe (Asst. Director-Legal), Mrs. Madhuka Ruwanthi Upali (Prevention Officer) and Ms. Eranga Madhushi (Prevention Officer) of the CIABOC provided resource contribution. The programme covered areas such as the harmfulness of bribery and corruption, preventing bribery and corruption and issues they have in that regard, concepts of integrity, and the New Anti-Corruption Act.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a corruption prevention programme for 66 Geological Survey and Mines Bureau Officers. It was held in the Bureau auditorium and a team comprising of Mrs. Vimukthi Jayasooriya (Prevention Officer), Mr. Shammi Srilal (Prevention Officer) and Ms. Eranga Madhushi (Prevention Officer) of the CIABOC provided the resource contribution. The programme covered areas such as the harmfulness of bribery and corruption, preventing bribery and corruption and issues they have in that regard, concepts of integrity, and the New Anti-Corruption Act.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a prevention programme on 25.03.2024 for 80 officers of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and took place in the auditorium of the Mahapola Ports and Maritime Academy of the Authority. Prevention Officers, Mrs J. L. A. Udeshika Madubashini, Mrs. Chamodi Jayasinghe and Ms. Vimukthi Jayasooriya made the audience aware on prevention of bribery and corruption, its consequences and issues they have in that regard, the concept of integrity, and the new Anti-Corruption Act.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) conducted another important prevention programme on 14.03.2024 for officers of the Urban Development Authority. It marked the beginning of a series of programmes conducted for UDA, an institution which has a staff of nearly 1553 officers. Around 110 higher managerial-level officers attended the first programme and were made aware of the strategies used in preventing bribery and corruption, the importance of prevention in that context, the concept of integrity, and the new Anti-Corruption Act.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a prevention programme on 20.03.2024 for 100 officers of the Ceylon Electricity Board and took place in the auditorium of the Additional General’s Office complex in Kadawatha. Resource persons Mrs. Dushmanthi Rajapaksha - Assistant Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, Mrs. J. I. A. Udeshika Madubhashini (Prevention Officer) and Mrs. Gayashani Uswatta (Legal Assistant) made the audience aware on prevention of bribery and corruption, its consequences and issues they have in that regard, the concept of integrity, and the new Anti-Corruption Act.

The public debate jointly organized by the students of the Department of Criminology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption successfully concluded on 26.03.2024. The debate conducted under the topic, “The existing laws and regulations on bribery and corruption are adequate/inadequate”, aimed at raising awareness on the provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023 and importance of integrity in making Sri Lanka a corruption-free nation.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducted a prevention programme on 12.03.2024 for 80 officers of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and took place in the auditorium of the Mahapola Ports and Maritime Academy of the Authority. Resource persons, Ms. Thanuja Bandara – Assistant Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and Prevention Officers, Mr. Sampath Arachchige, Mrs. Chamodi Jayasinghe and Ms. Vimukthi Jayasooriya made the audience aware on prevention of bribery and corruption, its consequences and issues they have in that regard, the concept of integrity, and the new Anti-Corruption Act.

This year's first corruption prevention program for the private sector on February 28th, 2024, a prevention program on bribery and corruption was conducted for 50 officers of Prime Lands (Pvt) Ltd at its head office in Borella. Officers from other branches also participated in the program via Zoom. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption provided resources for this program, including Assistant Director General Ms. Thanuja Bandara and Corruption Prevention Officer Ms. J.L.A Udeshika Madhubashani. During the program, participants discussed their concerns regarding the prevention of corruption in private sector, learned about the concept of integrity, and were made aware of the new Anti-Corruption Act.

A discussion with the top management of the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited was held on 01.03.2024 at its Minister’s bungalow, primarily focusing on a mechanism to fight bribery and corruption at BIA.

The preliminary objection filed by the former Central Environment Authority Chairman challenging his arrest was dismissed on 20.02.2024 by the Supreme Court without even taking it up for hearing.
