Legal action instituted against the Chief Inspector of Police who solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 2,500,000.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption prosecuted a Chief Inspector of the Airport Police who solicited and accepted Rs. 2,500,000 from a resident of New Hettiweediya, Colombo. The bribe was solicited to abstain from taking legal action against the complainant after finding 10 gold chains he had brought to Sri Lanka from outside. The gold chains weighed approximately 1 kilogram and were valued at about fifteen million rupees.

Accordingly, legal action was instituted against the suspect at the Colombo High Court on 25th February 2025 under case No. HCB/360/2025.
