Final preparations for the Global Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Jakarta Principlesare now underway. The EGM will be held from 25-27 July 2018 at the Taj Samudra, Colombo, co-hosted by the CIABOC, UNODC, and UNDP, Sri Lanka.
Anti-Corruption experts from around the world are arriving in Sri Lanka for the Global Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Jakarta Principles which will be held at the ‘Taj Samudra’ in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 25-27 July 2018. CIABOC is pleased to co-host the event together with UNODC, and UNDP, Sri Lanka. His Excellency, Maithripala Sirisena, the President of Sri Lanka will grace the inauguration of the EGM as the chief guest. The Expert Group is expected to adopt the Colombo Commentary on the Jakarta Principles aimed at assisting UNCAC member states to effectively implement the Jakarta Principles in order to strengthen the independence of national anti-corruption authorities.

Today High Court Judge Mr. Gihan Kulathunga sentenced former Divisional Secretary of the Akurana Divisional Secretary M.H.M. Niyaz for 5 years Rigorous Imprisonment, Penalty of Rs. 50,000/- & a fine of Rs. 10,000/- over bribery charges.
The country visit of Ms Abigail Hansen ,independent evaluator of mid term evaluation of the UNODC Global Programme against corruption ,meets the Director General of Commission to investigations of Bribery or Corruption on 19th July 2018(today).She is scheduled to meet the other national anti-corruption counterparts in Colombo from 19th and 20th July 2018.

The Authorized Investigation Officers of CIABOC have apprehended an Inspector of Police of Kalkuda Police Station when obtaining a bribe of Rs.300,000/- from a total amount of Rs.500,000/- initially solicited from the complainant in order to issue a report from Kalkuda Police Station to obtain an environment license from the Central Environment Authority for a brick making industry intended to initiate by the complainant.
