Accused – Rajaranjith, Manager attached to the Western Province Transport Authority, Battaramulla

The accused was convicted on 06/07/2018 by Hon. H.C.J. Gihan Kulatunga for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a bus owner for the issuance of a route permit for the Halkandawila Kaluthara Route. The suspect was convicted for all eight charges filed against him. He was imposed a five-year rigorous imprisonment for every charge, with a total of 40 years to run concurrently. A fine of Rs. 5,000 per charge in default one year Rigorous Imprisonment for each charge.
A penalty of Rs. 9,000 was imposed in accordance with the section 26. A compensation of Rs. 500,000 was imposed to be paid to the complainant.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Director General Mrs. Ganga Heiyantuduwa.
