The Investigation Officers of the CIABOC have arrested a Sub-Inspector attached to Biyagama Police, when attempting to receive sexual bribe which was solicited from the complainant to abstain from filing a case in the High Court and to institute action in the Magistrate’s Court for a minor offence against the husband of the complainant and another person and to release the complainant’s passport which has been kept under police custody.
A Sub Inspector attached to the Women and Child Division of Nugegoda Police Division was arrested on 20.07.2020 by Investigating Officers of CIABOC when receiving a bribe of Rs.5,000/- from a person who was released from a court case proceeded on alleged possessing of illicit liquor. The suspect has solicited the bribe to be paid him in each month in order to abstain from serving fresh case in the court on same allegation against the person released as above. The arrest was taken place when the suspect was receiving the bribe of Rs.5,000/- for the month of July as solicited.
The Inspector of Yakkala Police Station arrested by the Investigation Officers of the CIABOC on a raid conducted on 13.07.2020 while receiving a bribe of Rs.15,000/-. The suspect had solicited the bribe from the complainant of this raid to assist in the court and obtain a lenient order from the case proceeding in the court against the complainant and 04 others.
The officers of CIABOC have arrested a Hospital Overseer of a Base Hospital of Eastern Province when receiving a bribe of Rs.10,000/- of the total bribe of Rs.15,000/- solicited to assist the complainant who is an Assistant of a minor services to get the transfer from the Accident Ward to a Clinic Unit.
A Chena Cultivator had made a complaint to the Bribery Commission alleging a Field Forest Assistant on solicitation of a bribe of Rs.20,000/- to abstain from taking legal action against the complainant for clearing a Crown Land situated adjacent to the complainant’s land. This suspect was arrested on 07.07.2020 by the officers of CIABOC while accepting Rs.13, 000/- as the balance of the total bribe in addition to receiving Rs.7,000/- earlier.
Upon a complaint received by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on 28.05.2020, the Authorized Investigation Officers of the Commission had conducted a raid on the same day and arrested the Divisional Secretary and the Assistant Director of Planning of the Divisional Secretariat Alayadivembu when receiving a bribe of Rs.300,000/-. The bribe has been solicited from the complainant in order to offer a contract of a development project of 3 by-roads which was scheduled to conduct by the Divisional Secretariat. The arrest has been taken place while the first suspect Divisional Secretary obtaining the bribe, through the second suspect Assistant Director of Planning from the complainant.
The authorized officers attached to the CIABOC have arrested a police officer attached to Palmadulla Police Station while he was accepting a sum of Rs. 50,000 as a bribe in order to provide documents to the complainant.
The Principal of Seevali Maha Vidyalaya of Hindagala, Peradeniya was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000/= to accept a child to the Grade 1 class for 2020.
The investigation offices of CIABOC have arrested a Police Sergeant attached to Police Station, Puttalam while receiving a bribe of Rs.5000/- of the total solicited amount of Rs.10,000/- to release the revenue license and insurance certificate of a Dimo Batta Lorry arrested by the Police Officers of the relevant Police Station.
A tender offered by the Central Provincial Education Office to purchase discarded books, magazines and newspapers from schools at the rate of Rs.47.50/1Kg obtained by a businessman using someone else’s name has suggested to a Principal to offer a gratification by under-calculating the actual weight of goods fraudulently and to pay the Principal Rs.20.00/1Kg for the uncalculated weight as a bribe. Accordingly, the suspect has suggested to issue receipts for under-weighed goods at the rate of Rs.47.50/1Kg and to offer the Principal Rs.20.00/1Kg for the rest of the goods as a bribe. On 01.01.2020, the businessman had arrived at the school and had weighed the goods and had paid money only for 32Kg. Then the businessman who attempted to offer a bribe of Rs.7080/- to the Principal for unweighted goods was arrested on the spot by the officers of CIABOC.
The officers of CIABOC have arrested an Electricity Technical Officer on 20.12.2019 attached to the Regional Electricity Office, Gampaha when accepting an amount of Rs.130, 000/- as a bribe from the complainant being acting as a Police Officer in order to take no legal action against the complainant alleging that the complainant is selling illegal liquor.
