Based on a complaint made by a person in Kanchikuda, Batticaloa, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested a Sergeant and a Police Constable attached to the Police Special Branch, Kokkadicholai Sub-unit. According to the complainant, the two officers have solicited and accepted Rs. 2,000/- as a bribe in exchange for not taking legal action against him for illegal sand mining and transporting. They have subsequently solicited Rs. 2,000/- promising to extend support to continue the sand mining without a license. The arrest was made at 12.35 p.m. on 25.09.2024 in the Aruppan area while accepting the bribe.
