The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a coroner in Beruwala division on alleged soliciting and receiving a bribe of 3000/= on 03.08.2021 in accordance with a complaint lodged by a businessman in Dharga Town, Aluthgama.

According to a complaint received by the Bribery Commission, the Investigation Officers of the CIABOC have arrested a Land Officer and a Field Officer serving in the DivisionalSecretariat Pottuvil, for solicitation and acceptance of a bribe of Rs.150,000/- on 16.07.2021.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested the Acting Manager of the Passenger Transport Services Authority, Uva Province on alleged soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs. 50,000/- on 03.05.2021 in accordance with a complaint lodged by a resident at Uva- Paranagama in Welimada.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Forest Beat Officer of the Range Forest Office in Kamburupitiya  for receiving a bribe of Rs. 5,000/- on 09.04.2021 in accordance with a complaint lodged by a businessman  in Kamburupitiya.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested an Office Work Assistant attached to the Regional Office, Ratmalana of the Road Passenger Transport Authority on alleged soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000/= in front of a hotel at Soysapura junction in Ratmalana on 07.04.2021 in accordance with a complaint lodged by a businessman in Moratuwa.

When the complainant has taken necessary actions to obtain a loan from the Bank of Ceylon, one of the two guarantees provided by him was not a public servant. Therefore, the Grama Niladhari in charge of 244C Kovilkulam division assigned to the Divisional Secretariat of Vavuniya had solicited a table worth Rs.15,000/= or Rs.15,000/= as a bribe to sign the document provided by the Bank of Ceylon to verify that the said guarantee has an income. The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested the Grama Niladhari on alleged soliciting and receiving the said bribe on 31.03.2021 at Alayadi Street, Kovilkulam area.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested A Chief Inspector of Police serving the division of miscellaneous complaints in the  Police Station, Weliweriya on alleged soliciting and receiving of a bribe of Rs.10,000/= at the same police station on 29.03.2021 in accordance with a complaint lodged by a businessman in Weliweriya area.

A Management Assistant served at the Ministry of Health was convicted guilty on 04 counts of the indictment served against him by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption for soliciting and accepting a gratification of Rs. 20,000/- from a Consultant Physician to prepare his salary related to the foreign leave period.

A businessman in Wariyapola area is carrying out a business selling purified water. A PHI assigned to the Office of the Medical Health Officer, Wariyapola has solicited a monthly bribe of Rs. 7,000/- to abstain from taking legal action against the businessman for not installing filters in the water tank and to issue recommendations from the Office of the Medical Health Officer to obtain the Environmental Protection License. The Investigation officers of CIABOC have arrested the suspected PHI when receiving the bribe of Rs. 7,000/- for the month of March at the house of the businessman on 24.03.2021.

Actions were taken to recruit officers for 50 posts of prevention officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption with effect from 01.03.2021 .The Director General of the Commission has awarded the respective appointments on 01.03.2021 and 17 individuals have accepted the appointments. Thus, actions were taken to commence the Introductory Training Programme for them from 05.03.2021.

The Investigation Officers of CIABOC have arrested a Police Sergeant of the Police Station, Maharagama on alleged acceptance of a bribe of Rs.20,000/= in Maharagama town on 03.03.2021 in accordance with a complaint lodged by a Canadian citizen.
