The preliminary objection filed by the former Central Environment Authority Chairman challenging his arrest was dismissed on 20.02.2024 by the Supreme Court without even taking it up for hearing.
Based on a complaint made by a person in Yagirala, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested two Police Officers, a Constable and a Sergeant of Iththepana Police Station at around 3.40 p.m. on 26.02.2024. They were arrested inside the Police Station on allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000/.
Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja sentenced a civil person in Kuruwithenna on 21.02.2024 after pleading guilty to the charge in case HCB 248/2023, which the Commission filed for offering a bribe of Rs. 5,000/-.

Colombo High Court Judge Nawaratne Marsinghe sentenced 2 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment, suspended for 15 years to a civil person in Nawagaththegama after he pleaded guilty to the charge contained in the Indictment the Commission filed against him for offering Rs. 200,000/- as a bribe to Sub Inspector, Mr. Patirana of Nawagaththegama Police Station for not taking legal action against two suspects arrested while digging a treasure trove inside a reserved forest in Nawagathtehgama.
Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja sentenced an Office Employee Assistant of the Ceylon Electricity Board on 19.02.2024 after pleading guilty for the charges in case number HCB 66/2020 which the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed against him for soliciting and accepting of a bribe of Rs. 5,000/.
Another awareness programme on combatting bribery and corruption was conducted on 15.02. 2024 with the objective of moving Sri Lanka towards integrity, and officers of the Colombo Municipal Council were the target group of the present awareness programme.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption conducts a series of Corruption Prevention programmes to minimize bribery and corruption in the public sector and create a society that upholds integrity. Accordingly, another programme of this series was conducted on 09.02.2024 for officers of the Department of Agrarian Development, and used the department auditorium for the purpose.
Based on a complaint made by a driver/bus owner in Labukele, Investigation Officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption arrested two officers serving at the Nuwara Eliya District Office of the Central Province Passenger Transport Service Authority at around 10.10 a.m. on 2024.02.2024. The arrest was made inside the office on allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000/-.
The Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Law of No. 01 of 1975, as amended by Act No. 74 of 1988, mandates several categories of officials/individuals to declare their assets and liabilities. In addition to these categories, Section 80 of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 09 of 2023 identifies a number of other categories of officials/individuals for the declaration of assets and liabilities.
In a proactive move against corruption, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption’s (CIABOC) Prevention Unit conducted a prevention program for Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Electricity Superintendents. Held on February 15th, 2024, at the Dehiwala Regional Center auditorium, the program aimed to equip CEB personnel with prevention strategies aligned with the newly enacted No. 09 of 2023 Anti-Corruption Act.
